About Living with Bowel Cancer
Colorectal, or bowel cancer is a malignant tumour in the colon or rectum and usually occurs in middle and later life. Treatment is normally by surgical removal of the affected part of the colon or rectum. This may result in a person needing a colostomy, an opening of the bowel onto the outside of the body, which connects to a bag for collection of the body's waste.
Adults with colorectal cancer face a number of issues, not least of which is overcoming a life-threatening illness. Those living with a colostomy can experience loss of self-esteem, fear or embarrassment as they learn to cope with changes in their body's function.
'Speaking From Experience' offers first hand accounts from people who have lived through colorectal cancer about how their condition has affected their lives and how they are facing the future. View the contents of this DVD online at www.realtimehealth.com
"I certainly know now that the human body is something magnificent to be able to cope with traumas of that nature. It heals so readily."
